Last month’s show will be difficult to top, but on November 10th we will have another group of solid, top-tier talent performing at 8static!! Philly-chip guru, Animal Style will be treating us with more of his cerebral, jazz-inspired guitar jams. A true pioneer of the art, Animal Style has played the very first of many 8statics, Blip Festival 2008 & many other major chip events over the last few years. He also is a key member or Cheap Dinosaurs & Autoscroll. Don’t miss his innovative blend of chip music & guitar (with his signature square wave distortion)!!

Returning to his second performance at 8static, after treating us to a tease at last month’s alumni showcase, we have the amazing exileFaker from NYC! A two-time veteran Blip performer, exileFaker is a master of intelligent dance composition and you will not be disappointed.

Coming all the way from St. Louis, Missouri, the duo Dream Fox will be making their 8static debut. Also releasing music under the Lame Boyz moniker, Dream Fox have produced a variety of exciting progressive & dance music blends. We are very excited to see what they put together live for us this month!

On visuals we have the inimitable veteran, noteNdo!!! This New York based visualist has been performing audio-visual sets for years prior using analog video mixers as Jeff Donaldson. When the chip scene sprang up around NYC noteNdo was born, incorporating more contemporary glitch techniques into his craft. We look forward to having him back at 8static this month to provide a visual backdrop that is not to be missed!

Our very own SKGB will be hosting a workshop on using mixers to add amazing texture & twists to your live performances. Anyone who has seen him perform love knows he is already a master at this art, so be at the show by 7pm to check it out.

Already becoming a new tradition, we will be hosting an after-party down the block at The Institute Bar. Providing music while we enjoy our discounted food & drink will be local musician, Pixel8ter. So plan for another late night!!

Admission will be a sliding scale of $7-$10. Those that support 8static with a $10 admission fee will receive a special sticker exclusive to this month’s show! Spread the word and get your friends to join us at another amazing 8static at PhilaMOCA!!!

We celebrate our 4th anniversary at 8static on October 13th! This will be a very special, all-star event that you won’t want to miss at any cost! Back in 2008, the legendary Bit Shifter played the very first 8static at Studio 34. We are very honored to bring him back for our anniversary this month (as he also celebrates his birthday) and blow our minds with amazing LSDJ dance grooves.

Coming off his iconic Blip Festival performance this year, Radlib makes his 8static debut and will close out the night with some new material for us. Staging a retro-dance party with dual vintage FM synthesis enabled laptops, he will have everyone on their feet dancing to his upbeat jams.

Our very own Philadelphia showcase artist this year is the amazing an0va. A little math-rock permeates his hybrid offerings that are both cerebral and emotional. See why he took the community by storm last year with his debut release, “The Teaching Machine”. We are very proud to have him representing phillychip!

Last, but not least we have some freshly emerging talent from Michigan, Nikola Whallon. Having a diverse background in music, Nikola has impressed us this year with several killer open mic performances at 8static. He performed at MAGStock (sister event to the blockbuster MAGFest) this summer & we welcome him to our show this month.

Our visualists all come from Philly this month. 8static founder, NO CARRIER returns along with Chromacle and Animal Style. This crew will beautify all the fantastic music through our new double-projector setup.

Make sure you arrive early because at 8pm we will have a special event at this 8static. Presenting 12 veteran performers from 8statics past, we will debut our Alumni Showcase! An hour long set filled with top talent in the scene will warm you up before the main event begins. There will be some BIG surprises during this. DO NOT MISS!

IF you can’t make it, be sure to check out our live audio stream on Arecibo Radio and join us at our after-party at The Institute bar down the block where Decktonic will DJ away whatever is left of your energy and inhibitions.

On September 22nd we celebrate the triumphant return of Buffalo’s guitar shredding maestro, Danimal Cannon. Since blowing our minds here one year ago, Danimal has brought his guitar / game boy combo up & down the east coast on tour with rock-opera super-group, the Protomen and rocked huge events such as Blip Festival, MAGFest & PAX East. It’s an honor to welcome him back to Philadelphia!!

On the other side of the Mason-Dixon line we welcome the 8static debut of LSDJ wizard Trey Frey. Trey’s infectious dance grooves & high energy performance has earned him a dedicated fan base in West Virginia & Maryland. His complex & densely-layered jams will surely win over anyone who has yet to experience him live.

Oven Rake is joining us from across the country, all the way from Tacoma, WA. Best known for his funky gameboy electronica, last month saw the debut of his entry into post-rock with the Boy’s Club project. We can’t wait to hear what he will bring to 8static!

Philadelphia’s own Animal Style twisted our minds with his special blend of organic / digital art for visuals at his last 8static. He has been working on totally new material that he will debut this show!

The real-time rendering of game engines opens up possibilities for audiovisual performance. Game art duo Foci + Loci will present an examination of their work process in Little Big Planet 2 providing an opportunity for participants to collectively build and perform in a simulated environment. Join us at 7pm for our workshop hosted by Chris Burke (Glomag) and Tamara Yadao (Corset Lore) and experience a new way to combine music, art & video gaming.

Join us on August  4th for a great line-up of performers!  Coming out of Blip 2012,  Chipocrite will be performing a farewell to Philadelphia show! His intelligent LSDJ dance jams have been truly inspirational across the community and we will miss him dearly when he leaves.  If you haven’t seen him yet or are already a huge fan, don’t miss this chance as he most likely will not be playing in the area again for some time!

Coming down from Boston this month we welcome back Br1ght Pr1mate to Philadelphia.  This duo’s heavy electronic beats and sultry female vocals have bridged genres across the chip scene and have been an instrumental force in developing the scene at boston8bit.

Last, but not least, we are honored to have Smiletron peform with us. Coming all the way from Nashville, Tenessee, we are extremely excited to welcome his super-chill brand of electronic trance as he will debut new material for us this weekend!!

The inimitable CHiKA will be back again from NYC doing visuals for us, she always does amazing work and we are sure this time will not be an exception!

Our workshop will be Rhythm & Groove in LSDJ, hosted by our own Daniel Davis (an0va).

Don’t forget to RSVP on facebook and show up early to sign up for open mic (spots always fill up super quick!!)

8static 2B

This month, 8static is going to be an awesome display. Returning to Philly after a far too long is Bubblyfish who’s unique, high energy jams get a crowd moving in all the best ways. Also returning to the 8static stage this month is Philly local Dain Saint, who will be performing an improvisational set of his futuristic jazz inspired, but danceable tunes. Making his first appearance for a full set at 8static, we have Watabou, coming all the way from Michigan, his blend of high energy chipmusic with screamed vocals blew minds at the open mic in April.

For this month’s workshop we have The Dutchess to teach you the basics of how to use Deflemask, a multiplatform tracker with support for many different kinds of soundchips.

Also this month, Mash Those Buttons has given us a few copies of Infinity Shred’s (formerly Starscream) latest EP, which we will be giving away in between sets with trivia questions, so make sure your brains are ready!

Don’t forget to come early to sign up for the open mic spaces are limited!

And be sure to join the event on Facebook!

We know some of you couldn’t make it to this year’s amazing Blip Festival, so this month we’ve got a treat for you: almost everyone playing this month was featured in some form at this past Blip Fest! Philly’s own Chromacle tore through attendees’ eyes from the visuals booth at Blip, but here, he’s going to be front and center providing an audiovisual barrage. CHILLBRAVE may not have performed as a unit at Blip, but you may have seen Tate (half of CHILLBRAVE) performing with FlashHeart, but don’t think you know what’s coming. Their  pounding, and masterfully composed songs will be sure to get you dancing. If you were there to witness Kris Keyser‘s set at Blip Fest you would have seen the cult-like reverence the crowd had for him. If Kris can do one thing, it’s drive a crowd, and if he can do another, and we know he can, it’s making awesome tunes that will get any crowd pumped. Our final musician this month is none other than MisfitChris. At blip you may have seen him on stage surrounded by the other performers, while the crowd was going nuts. We can’t promise that there’ll be any worshipping like there was at Blip, but by the end of this set you may have some thoughts about where to direct your prayers. On visuals for the night is the famed mad-scientist/artist Batsly Adams. He blew the crowd’s minds at blip and now he’s coming back to 8static to show you all what’s up. This is a packed show, and it’ll surely be an 8static to remember!

The workshop this month features DJ Cutman with some pointers on how to get the most out of Ableton Live.

As always before the show, and after the workshop there’s an open mic, but slots are limited, be sure to come early to sign up!
