What better way to start 2009 than with an awesome blast of chipmusic on January 10th. After a successful European tour Argentina’s 8GB (on the picture, doing his thing) can’t stay off the road and is coming to Philly to make you dance to his breakbeats. He’ll be doing visuals too so get ready for a total audiovisual experience by 8GB. Anamanaguchi will be playing songs from their new album Dawn Metropolis and Animalstyle and Rhinostrich also have something new up their sleeves so it’s a can’t miss event. NO CARRIER and VBLANK will be great as always with their visuals.

If you are interested in creating chipmusic make sure to come to Animalstyle’s workshop at 6:30pm and learn about Nanoloop and LSDJ on the GameBoy. We want more chipmusic and you might be the next 8bit star! See you at 8static.

We have already posted the lineups for the next three 8static shows in the events section - a ton of cool chiptunes and 8bit visuals is coming to Philly in 2009.

We start off on January 10th, with an awesome lineup: 8GB, Anamanaguchi, Animalstyle and Rhinostrich with visuals by VBLANK and NO CARRIER. We want more people making chiptunes so Animalstyle has graciously agreed to give a free workshop, “Intro to Game Boy music”, covering Nanoloop and LSDJ starting at 6:30pm. Performances will start at 7:30pm.

On February 7th we have Nullsleep coming over to make you dance your 8bit butt away. He will be joined by Cheap Dinosaurs, Starscream and Peter Swimm. Visuals will be created by Paris Treantafeles and NO CARRIER - they really did some wonders together at Blip ‘08.

By March 21st you’ll see everything in pixels and hear everything in blips, just the right combination for the music of gwEm, Bubblyfish, Ary and Natty and the visuals of noteNdo and VBLANK

Tickets for 8static are now on sale, just click the link on the left above the pictures. We’re all fancy now, so this time you get a real e-ticket. And don’t worry, we have much more in the works… Philly is turning all pixely.

Trash80 stage rush madness

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better… The finale of Blip 2008 was a total riot. After Anamanguchi’s energy filled set (see them at 8static in January) USK took the stage and just blew the place up. In a single continuous flow of relentless beats and everchanging melodies he didn’t stop until the audience was exhausted. It was a crazy half an hour. Anamanaguchi then came on stage to help him finish off the set. Trash80 then closed the festival with the crowd rushing the stage and going crazy for his dance beats. The visuals in general have been amazing and everyone has kicked it up a notch. NO CARRIER and VBLANK had some absolutely awesome visuals (I think heads will explode when VBLANK adds a D chip on his breadboards - he’s up to C now and it’s already getting pretty crazy out there). NO CARRIER came out with some new color palettes and old school wave effects to wow the audience - the minusbaby set just wouldn’t have been the same without his and Paris’ visuals. This year Cheap Dinosaurs brought his broken rhythms to Blip and the audience just loved it. To complete the Philly wave Animalstyle brought out his cool melodies and made the audience want it cranked up to 11. All in all pretty exciting stuff from the Philly scene with more to come.

BlipFest 2008 is currently in progress and it’s been awesome. Some highlights: check out IAYD - this guy is 16 and he brought the house down! The end of Friday night was also quite a ride with minusbaby and his friends creating one of the most unique 8bit experiences followed by Meneo, a two guy crew from Barcelona that by the end of the night had their butt cheeks showing and the audience in trance! We have some great performers lined up for you:
from Buenos Aires 8GB is bringing his beats to Philly as well as Anamanaguchi and Rhinostrich from NYC and Animalstyle from Philly. VBLANK and NO CARRIER will again dazzle us with their video.

We are planning to have 8static monthly so Philly can get its 8-bit fix on a regular basis. We already have a great lineup for February so tell your friends to get ready to have their brains made all pixely next year. More details about the January show to come.
